Q: My son is getting married in 2 months and I would love to look my best for the wedding. I have never done Botox before, but I would love to try it now. When should I come to see you?
A: This is a question that I am asked often. I advise patients in your situation that 2 to 3 months prior to an important event is an ideal time to schedule an appointment with us.
If you have never used a neurotoxin/neuromodulator such as Botox or Dysport before, we want to make certain that all of your options are discussed and questions answered before we begin treatment. We know that these medications do not work instantly and can take up to 2 weeks to become fully effective. In order to ensure the optimal result we will evaluate the effectiveness of your Botox treatment 2 weeks after the injection as desired. This allows us to do additional units of neurotoxin if necessary and gives the medication enough time to completely work before your big day. Botox typically lasts 12 to 16 weeks, but for new users it may be as short as 10 weeks. For these reasons, the timing of this initial appointment is very important.
